About the position

Verizon is seeking an Associate Director to lead a Network Security Red Team in the telecommunications industry. The role leads skilled Red Team operators conducting campaigns and continuous work to identify vulnerabilities and security gaps across Verizon’s infrastructure, applications, processes, and networks. The team emulates real-world adversarial techniques to assess and improve defensive capabilities and help protect customer data and network infrastructure. The position requires collaboration with internal teams to simulate advanced persistent threats and design engagements for the challenges of telecommunications systems, including large-scale enterprise networks, 4G and 5G wireless infrastructure, and cloud technology. The Associate Director must understand network equipment and protocols, communicate effectively, and have demonstrated experience building and supporting a team that solves complex challenges. This is a hybrid role with a defined work location, including work from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office. The manager sets the office location. The scheduled workweek is 40 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Red Team in alignment with the organization’s cybersecurity strategy and address the security challenges of large-scale telecommunications systems.
  • Keep current on attack techniques, tactics, and procedures relevant to the telecommunications industry.
  • Determine when and how to communicate Red Team actions to defense stakeholders to prevent production impacts from incident response.
  • Ensure timely delivery of technical post-engagement reports and communicate findings to leadership in various forums.
  • Collaborate with security and operations peers to provide insights that improve the network’s security posture.
  • Lead Red Team operators conducting campaigns and continuous Red Team work against objectives on Verizon’s networks.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to simulate advanced persistent threats and execute engagements tailored to the telecommunications sector.

Requirements

  • At least eight years of relevant experience, demonstrated through job-related work experience, military experience, or specialized training or education (non-collegiate).
  • Eight or more years of relevant cybersecurity experience, including at least five years leading a Red Team in large-scale environments; commensurate experience in a related leadership role combined with demonstrated Red Team operations knowledge will be considered.
  • Leadership experience running Red Team operations in high-risk or production environments.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of enterprise networking technologies and protocols, including routers, switches, VPNs, load balancers, TCP/IP, IP addressing, ASN, CIDR, and subnetting.
  • Understanding of key concepts in modern mobile network architecture sufficient to enable objective-based campaigns.
  • Ability to lead highly technical operators and communicate impacts to leadership.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications such as CISSP, OSCP, GIAC, or HTB.
  • Familiarity with security challenges in large enterprise-scale or ISP networks, wireless core architecture, cloud, and edge computing.
  • Expertise in telecommunications systems signaling and management protocols, such as SIP, SS7/Diameter, and TR-69.
  • Advanced knowledge of mobile network architecture, including Edge, Evolved Packet Core, 5GSA, and mobile call flows.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance and AD&D insurance.
  • Identity theft protection, pet insurance, and group home and auto insurance.
  • Matched 401(k) savings plan.
  • Up to eight company-paid holidays per year and up to six personal days per year.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Adoption assistance.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Other incentives and an award-winning total rewards package.
  • Potential premium pay, such as overtime, shift differential, holiday pay, and allowances, depending on the role.
