About Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines has one of the most distinctive brand voices in American business — warm, unpretentious, and genuinely human. Our Corporate Communications team is responsible for protecting and projecting that voice across internal and external channels, from executive messaging and employee newsletters to media relations and crisis communications. Every word we put out carries the weight of a 50-year brand legacy, and we are looking for a skilled coordinator to help us do it right.

The Opportunity

As a Remote Corporate Communications Coordinator in Aviation, you will provide operational and content support to Southwest's Corporate Communications team, helping to manage the full lifecycle of communication projects — from drafting and editing to scheduling, publishing, and measuring effectiveness. You will work alongside communications managers on both routine and time-sensitive messaging needs, and your organizational precision will be as valuable as your editorial instincts.

Your Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and proofread internal communications including employee newsletters, executive announcements, and department updates
  • Coordinate the content calendar for Southwest's internal and external communications channels
  • Support media relations activities including press release drafting, media inquiry tracking, and press kit maintenance
  • Manage the logistics of town halls, virtual press briefings, and executive communication events
  • Track and report communications metrics including open rates, readership, and social engagement data
  • Maintain Southwest's communications asset library including brand guidelines, approved boilerplate, and executive bios
  • Assist with crisis and issues communications preparation, including scenario planning documentation and stakeholder notification protocols

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, content management, or editorial roles
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong command of tone, style, and brand voice
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple concurrent communication projects without missing details or deadlines
  • Familiarity with airline or transportation industry communications is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field required

Southwest Perks

  • Competitive compensation with annual performance review and merit increase
  • Southwest standby flight benefits and discounted confirmed travel for employees
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with Southwest covering a meaningful portion of costs
  • 401(k) with dollar-for-dollar match and Southwest profit-sharing distribution
  • Collaborative, low-ego team environment where strong writing and clear thinking are celebrated
